Heartburn and indigestion are on the list of symptoms women are more likely to have during a heart attack. If the feeling is new, unusually strong, or arrives with shortness of breath, sweating, nausea, dizziness or pain in the jaw, back or arms, treat it as a heart attack and call 911.</div></details><details><summary>Can I have a heart attack without any chest pain?</summary><div class="acv-a">Yes. Mayo Clinic states plainly that it is possible to have a heart attack without chest pain, and the CDC notes some women have no symptoms at all. Women with diabetes face a higher risk of a silent heart attack, because diabetes can change the way pain is felt.</div></details><details><summary>Should I drive myself to the hospital?</summary><div class="acv-a">No, unless you have no other way to get there. Mayo Clinic is specific about this. Calling 911 starts treatment sooner and puts trained people beside you if your heart stops on the way.</div></details><details><summary>Why do women's symptoms get missed so often?</summary><div class="acv-a">Three reasons stack up. The symptoms often seem unrelated to the heart, they frequently begin at rest rather than during exertion, and women commonly attribute them to acid reflux, the flu or normal aging. Only about 56 percent of US women recognize heart disease as their leading cause of death.</div></details><details><summary>What if a previous test showed my arteries were clear?</summary><div class="acv-a">It does not rule a heart attack out. Women are more likely than men to have a heart attack with no severe blockage in a major artery, known as nonobstructive coronary artery disease. Women also tend to have disease in the smaller vessels supplying the heart.</div></details><details><summary>At what age should I start paying attention to this?</summary><div class="acv-a">Heart disease can affect women at any age, and over 60 million US women live with some form of it. Risk rises after menopause as estrogen falls. Mayo Clinic singles out women under 65 with a family history of heart disease as a group that should watch their risk factors closely.</div></details></div><div class="acv-secondary">Wondering where you stand overall? <a href="/#assessment">Take the free 5-minute Healthspan Snapshot</a> and see your strongest and weakest of six dimensions.</div></div></div>
